The rematch
became a rout.
In a rain-soaked championship at Thompson Field, Paradise defeated previously unbeaten, top-ranked Anderson 40-14 to claim the North Section title. The Bobcats finished the season 11-1 and brought Paradise its first football title since 1975.
Paradise led 13-0 at halftime behind a defense that forced turnover after turnover. Steve Main recorded two interceptions and recovered a fumble. Brad Ziel threw three touchdown passes, Mark Poliquin caught scoring passes of 51 and 25 yards, and Steve Durman broke an 87-yard touchdown run.
The original newspapers used the period designation “NSCIF AAA.” This archive keeps the site label “North Section 3A Championship.”
